In the Autumn of 2001 BBE released a Beat Generation album produced by one of Hip Hops originator’s – Marley Marl. During the recording of this album Roy Ayers & Edwind Birdsong, along with BBE label boss Peter Adarkwah got together and re-recorded one of Roy’s lesser known classics ‘Hummin’. That day the seed of a relationship was planted. Fast-forward two years the seed has grown and blossomed. Recognizing that Peter’s appreciation went beyond fanatical fandom, Roy gave him unlimited access to literally hundreds of unreleased recordings. The album before you is the first in what is likely to be a series of albums, giving public life to what can only be termed ‘the holy grail’ of any true music lovers search.

On first hearing these recordings, the excitement pulsing through the office was incredible, a steady stream of friends started to queue outside to listen in awe at the treasures inside. We pulled out our existing Roy Ayers collection, and marvelled at the quality of these newfound tracks, beautiful classics, every one of them.

This album will appeal equally to Hip Hoppers, Soul lovers, Jazz Freaks Young, old in fact anyone who likes quality music…true to the bbe adage:

“Real music…for real people”
